Find Methadone Treatment Near Indianapolis IN
If a person is very dependent on opioids and has been for a long time, they may start their treatment with a medical detox. From our survey of current and former opioid users, we found that 59 percent started treatment in an inpatient or residential facility, while 29 percent went through medical detox.
Treatment plans are different for each patient because each person has different needs. Federal law says that methadone must be given at an Opioid Treatment Program that has been approved and certified (OTP). In the beginning stages of methadone treatment, patients get their daily dose of methadone while being watched by a medical provider. After a patient has been on methadone treatment for a while, he or she may be given doses of methadone to take on their own at home if urine drug screens and monitoring by the patient's medical team show that the patient is following the treatment plan.
Talk to your doctor before you stop taking methadone. Your doctor may recommend gradually decreasing your dosage. You may feel withdrawal symptoms like restlessness, headaches, dry eyes, yawning and sweating.
Your doctor might change the dose of methadone you are taking during treatment. As your treatment progresses, your doctor might decrease your dose of methadone or tell you to use it less frequently. Your doctor may recommend additional medication or increase the dose if you are experiencing pain. Discuss how you feel during treatment with methadone. Even if you feel pain, do not take more methadone than prescribed or take methadone doses earlier than scheduled.
Dispersible tablets should not be chewed or swallowed before being mixed in liquid. If you have been told by your doctor to only take a portion of the tablet, carefully break it along the lines marked into it. To dissolve the tablet, or any portion of it, place the tablet in 120 mL (4 ounces), of water, orange juice or Tang(r), and stir. Consume the whole mixture immediately. Drink the entire mixture right away if there is any tablet residue left in your cup.
